Date: August 6th-14th
Format: 64 player bracket, single elimination. All matches are best out of 3 sets, except the Gold Medal Match which is best out of 5 sets.
Notable dropouts: Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych, Richard Gasquet
With the 2 Swiss players dropping out, it is even more likely that we see another Djokovic/Murray match in the finals (These two faced each other in the finals of the first two majors this year). Andy Murray is the defending gold medalist, and don’t think he will have any trouble getting back to the semi-finals this year.
Rafael Nadal is the big question mark in the field. At his peak, Nadal is the greatest tennis player that I have ever watched, but he has suffered many injuries throughout his career. Nadal is also technically defending his Olympic gold medal that he won in 2008 due to the fact that he withdrew from the 2012 Olympics. I think there are only 3 players in the field that can win the gold medal and Nadal is one of them, but he needs to be 100% healthy to do so.
Prediction:
Gold: Novak Djokovic, Serbia
Silver: Andy Murray, Great Britain
Bronze: Gael Monfils, France (Yes, this may be a biased pick because he has been my second favorite player to watch behind Nadal, but he has been playing well and I really like his draw as the 6th seed)
